Why Volunteer with Hearts Together?

Volunteers are integral to delivering the values of Hearts Together and are central to increasing the impact of our work. Volunteers enable us to provide a much broader level of care and service to everyone on a more personal and individual basis.

Our home-from-home accommodation at Hearts Together Hospital Hotel in Plymouth sees around 10,000 patients, carers and relatives staying with us each year and we are open 365 days a year. This means that there is always work to be done, although we have a busy team, an extra pair of hands is always needed!

We offer flexible and informal volunteering roles designed to fit around you and your time.

  • Do you have a spare hour or two in your day?
  • Want to gain new skills?
  • Are you looking to take up work experience?
  • Do you need to complete volunteer hours?
  • Are you looking to give back?

We can find a role for you! Why not take a look at our current Volunteering Roles or download our volunteer pack for more info.

We want our volunteers to gain as much as possible out of their experience and we are committed to making that experience inclusive, meaningful and impactful. That's why we have a dedicated Volunteer Co-Ordinator whose role is to ensure that all our volunteers are achieving what they set out to do and that they feel supported throughout their time with us.

We know that when people volunteer, they do so because they care about others and want to make a positive difference in their community. Whether that’s lending a hand at the Hotel and supporting staff, fundraising, using their unique skill set to give back, or helping develop the garden area to make it a complete haven for guests to relax within. It is all greatly valued and appreciated! Volunteers have always made valuable contributions across the organisation and are integral to helping us to help so many people through really challenging times.

Meet our Volunteer Community!

Volunteer Vera at Hearts Together Plymouth

"I volunteer at Hearts Together as I have been in a similar situation to many of the guests, having a family member in hospital for an emergency, major surgery away from home. I also volunteer as I enjoy meeting new people and a bonus is they are all much younger than me!!"

Vera – Guest Services Volunteer

Young Volunteer Danny at the Hearts Together Reception

"Volunteering has personally given me the confidence to feel comfortable for future work ahead. From volunteering, I feel more at ease with how a workplace runs and it has given me a better insight into being given tasks and doing them to the best of my ability. "

Danny – Young Volunteer with The Princes Trust

Hearts Together Volunteer Cathy

"I have found that meeting new people and doing something new is good for the mind as well as the body. I look forward to volunteering every week at Hearts Together Hospital Hotel. The Team is always very appreciative and I get so much pleasure from being there.  "

Cathy– Housekeeping Volunteer

Volunteer Stacey via Gifted Women at Hearts Together

Current opportunities

Volunteering opportunities over the years at Hearts Together have evolved based on the service needs and the feedback from our guests and team, which is so valuable to us. This has meant we have been able to grow a great small team of mutli-skilled volunteers undertaking a wide range of roles on an informal and flexible basis.

From housekeeping, gardening, fundraising in the community and board level opportunities, there's something for everyone.  Why not take a look at our current roles here: Volunteering Roles
