Leave a gift in your will

Every gift, however large or small, makes a difference to peoples lives

The donations, gifts and legacies we receive, enable us to make a difference to people’s lives 365 days a year.   By leaving a legacy gift to Hearts Together, you allow us to make a positive impact on people's lives through everything that we do! You are ensuring that families can be close to their loved ones when they are receiving treatment or end of life care, you are providing a safe and comfortable space for patients receiving cancer treatments, you are offering anxious individuals support the night before they undergo life changing surgery, you are giving relatives and carers the encouraging words they need to hear - that they will be ok and they can get through this, you are providing a bed for the night for a family who cannot afford to pay, you are making a positive difference every day.

It is important that we make plans for what we would like to happen when we are gone to ensure that our legacies live on as we intend them to, which is why writing a will is so important. Providing for our loved ones is top priority but if we have made a difference to you or your loved ones and if you are able, please remember us in your will too.

Writing your own will

Making a will need only take a few minutes.  A simple will need not cost a lot and can easily be changed.

There are three different types of legacy gifts:

  • A share of your estate, or ‘residuary legacy’. This is a percentage of your estate after all other gifts and expenses have been paid.
  • A specific sum or ‘pecuniary legacy’
  • A specific item; this could be something valuable such as an antique, painting, property or shares.

If you leave a gift to Hearts Together in your will it will not be included when valuing your estate for Inheritance Tax purposes.  The value of your gift will be deducted from your estate before Inheritance Tax is applied.

To remember Hearts Together in your will, you will need the following details:

Address: Hearts Together, 7 Blunts Lane, Derriford, Plymouth, PL6 8BE

Reg charity number: 1183181

We recommend that you seek the advice of a qualified legal professional when writing your will.  They will inform you about current inheritance tax thresholds as well as ensuring your will is valid and that your wishes will be followed.

If you’ve decided you want to remember Hearts Together in your will, you can use the following wording as a starting point for a discussion with your solicitor:

Residuary bequest (a share of your estate)

My bequest to Hearts Together of the residual estate (or a proportion of) – a residuary or percentage legacy subject to the payment of my debts, funeral and testamentary expenses, I give the whole (residuary) or ______% of my estate not otherwise disposed of by this my Will to Hearts Together (Registered charity number 1183181) of 7 Blunts Lane, Derriford, Plymouth, PL6 8BE, for the general purposes of Hearts Together and I declare that the receipt of their Treasurer or other proper officer shall be a full and sufficient discharge.”

Pecuniary bequest (a specific sum of money)

My bequest to Hearts Together for a set sum – a pecuniary legacy “I give free of tax to Hearts Together (Registered charity number 1183181) of 7 Blunts Lane, Derriford, Plymouth, PL6 8BE, the sum of £______ for the general purposes of Hearts Together and I declare that the receipt of their Treasurer or other proper officer shall be a full and sufficient discharge.”
