I joined Hearts Together (Heartswell) in Jan 2018 as a Trustee and have supported the Charity through its transition to its current structure. My motivation for working with the Charity is founded on my wish to use the skills, knowledge and experience gained in my 42-year career in the MoD in a volunteer capacity upon retirement.

Having suffered a major cardiac incident in 2017 and planning to retire in 2018 the opportunity to apply to join Heartswell as a Trustee became available at the right time. The objects of the charity at that time were directly related to cardiac patients and their carers’ and therefore due to my personal experience, I felt it was the right charity for me to support. Since the transition to Hearts Together our objects have rightly been expanded to include all patients, carers and healthcare professionals. I am excited to continue to help the charity grow in this direction.

Since my retirement, I have supported the charity’s work by representing the charity at various events and fundraisers, significantly, as part of a small team running the annual “Clem Spenser Day” at Elfordleigh Golf Club, which raises funds for the charity in the name of its late Chairman. In addition, utilising skills acquired from my time in the MoD, as an Engineering support to Commercial activity with Major MoD Contractors in the UK and Overseas, I sit on the sub-teams for the Big Build Project, Governance and Finance. I am a proven leader with exemplary people management abilities and enjoy developing successful teams to build positive and lasting internal and external relationships at all levels.
